Up until the 1960s, there was never a concept of guns being some automatic right for citizens in the US. It was only after the Supreme Court reinterpreted what a well regulated militia meant. And the AR-15 was never intended to be in the hands of ordinary folk when it was released. Yes we have nut jobs in Australia, and some politicians (including the deputy Prime Minister) lost their seats and ended their political careers over the issue. And all have said it was totally worth it. Only America has this problem, the rest of the world has figured it out.
