The US gave the Soviet Union the equivalent of $130 billion in today’s money, which would be enough to build an entire army from scratch several times over. The Soviets also don’t gain points by their losses- though the Germans lost the majority of troops on the Eastern Front, their casualties were a fraction of the Soviets. And that comes down to tactics and the cavalier attitude towards their own soldier’s lives as basic cannon fodder and using weight of numbers. The Soviets could not have defeated the Germans in the time they did, perhaps eventually years later, without American assistance in lend lease, plus the western front plus allied bombing of Germany.

But the Soviets also shortened the war in the Pacific, saving American lives in making an invasion of Japan unnecessary. And trust me, after 7 years living in Russia, which has WW2 movies running non stop on cable, the Russians are just as guilty of creating a mythos about the war.
