That's a pretty big whitewash. There is no excuse for the partition of Poland or the Finland war, or the murder of 6000 Polish officers in the Katyn forest. Yes the Soviets soaked up a lost of the losses and killed the most Germans. But no non Russian would call themselves a Soviet Russian, indeed their internal passports prohibited such a term. There is no excuse for expelling all the chechens to Siberia, Crimean Tatars to Central Asia and emptying half the baltic countries to fill all these places with Russians instead.

Nor is there any excuse of occupying and controlling Eastern Europe ten times longer than the Nazis did.

The Lend Lease gave the equivalent of $130 billion today, enough back them to equip an army twice over. The T-34 had American turrets and gear mechanism for the turret mounts.

Stalin was one of the biggest mass murderers in history. Nothing he did was "legendary."

The only concession I give to the Soviets is they, not the bomb, ended the war in the Pacific. 1 million Soviet soldiers charging through inner Mongolia worried the Japanese far more than the Atomic bomb. And this is shown in their cabinet notes. Because the Americans were reluctanly to have 500,000 casualties than an invasion would take but Stalin, author of "no people, no problem" was more than happy to waste those lives. And thus the Soviets ended up with a bunch of Japanese islands.

You basically have Sauron and Saruman and you're telling us that Saruman is just misunderstood and a swell guy.
