My ex father in law was a tunnel rat in Vietnam, entering Viet Cong booby trapped tunnels and often fighting hand to hand in the near dark. The rest of his life he was haunted by nightmares and never talked about it. Full on PTSD.
There are 500km of tunnel with doors all through it so some "knock out gas" wouldn't work. They flooded a small amount of tunnels and the world cried out.
Also there are plenty of HAMAS and PLFP .and other groups that are fighting not in the tunnels. You can watch plenty of HAMAS propaganda videos showing them attacking Israeli tanks from inside or next to buildings.
As a military veteran, I'm not anti war. I'm anti wars without clear objectives and goals and that aren't in the national interest. With a supposed 30,000 dead, which includes all the Hamas fighter divisions eliminated, not just civilian casualties, Israel has wrought incredible destruction to northern Gaza especially with a tiny fracture of the civilian losses compared to anyone from Assad to America. A very ineffective genocide.
The ethnic cleansing charge, though, is much harder to defend against. It would come down to what happens on the day after. If Gaza city was rebuilt and everyone was welcome back, then it would not have been ethnic cleansing. But if that doesn't happen, then it would be. With Netanyahu, who the heck knows?
Finally, clear and fair elections in both Gaza and the West Bank, would elect HAMAS , not the Palestinian Authority. The Palestinian Authority knows this, which is why they don't have elections. Israel knows this too, and they are not interested in HAMAS being in charge of the West Bank.
