Macron the dictator- Americans discover parliamentary democracy.
Ravings of the political illiterate.
My twitter(that no one will ever call X) has exploded with freedom loving Americans of red, white and blue enraged with the antics of another red,white and blue country.
They have just heard that Macron, the President of France, is dissolving parliament. And boy, they have a lot to say.
Cries of dictator and calling him Emperor Palpatine for daring to do such a deed, something no American politician would do or even could do.
But for the rest of the (sane) world this is quite a normal state of affairs. And it is actually a wonderful example of democracy, whatever you think of Macron. It can certainly be cynical and calculating- but it surely gives people a voice.
Macron’s political party, under Prime Minister Gabreil Attal (who?), is trying to cling to power, against an emerging Right under Le Pen.
This is not unique to France, Right Wing parties have had solid showings in the Netherlands, Germany and a host of other European countries. There can be all kinds of arguments why, but certainly people are unhappy with the status quo.
What Macron is doing is to determine just how unhappy the people are, whether they are just…
