I lived 6 years in Krasnodar, am considered an honorary cossack and attended the cossack games and other events. Cossacks were militarized in my time there to become a paramilitary force with police like powers. Though the locals in the villages speak Kubanski, which is 70% Ukrainian, and though the Cossacks who foundered Krasnodar were from Ukraine- they are Putin loyalists and considered by all other Cossacks as traitors.
