I can’t join you in that, I have more Russian friends than any other nation. And 3/4 at least of my students who are Russian but have fled Russia. It is largely an Orwellian society with a cultural heritage of serfdom, fatalism and that it was a virtue to suffer. Independent media barely existed before and doesn’t now. I lived there 7 years and visited many times before that. Yes far, far too many support the war. But another large contingent feel powerless to argue about it. It can be 15 years in jail and you wouldn’t last 2. Those who want no part of it are trying to get out. Not all have nice remote IT jobs to go to. A lot of people are just stuck.
