Haganah was formed in 1905 when 100 Jewish farmers, tired of constant destruction of their crops as well as attacks on their families by local Arabs. This was after pleading with local Sheikhs and tribal chiefs for assistance, who had no sympathy for Jews who had legally bought land. It was formed to stop local Arabs(now Palestinians) displacing them, not the other way around. Irgun and Stern were quite different, focused on ridding the British occupation and then fighting back against the Arabs(Palestinians) who had rioted and done pogroms to prevent Jews living there. A lot of their actions deserve to be condemned. But even Irgun and Stern were not initially created with displacement of anyone in mind, except the British. The older Haganah was just a group of farmers banding together and being armed, after local Arab leaders and Ottoman authorities refused to protect them.
