As I wrote in my article, Russia isn't serious about negotiating at present. You can recall Macron trying and flying to Moscow, under much criticism, and saying the effort was pointless. Ukraine is very unlikely to win militarily-though what it has already done is remarkable-meaning at some point negotiations will have to end the war. But unless Ukraine can pressure Kherson and Crimea, Russia would not be interested in discussions. Furthermore, should Ukraine fail at that attempt, Russia will push on to Odesa and Moldova. So, actually, the West would LOVE dialogue right now and going back to situation normal for their economies. Ukraine isn't especially interested at this point, it was when Russia troops were surrounding Kyiv-but they need some stinging victory in the south to bring Russia to the table. Russia is absolutely not interested in talking just now.
