almost certainly, and the West can often be hypocrits but if you shame them they become highly principled, even to their own detriment, to prove a point. It is like going into an American bar and accuse one of being "Cheap" - they can buy everyone drinks just to prove that isn't so. Gadaffi found that out when he taunted the west saying he would go into Benghazi and hunt everyone down like rats-potential genocide- and said there is nothing the West can do about it. Assad was much smarter, he learnt the lesson to always deny everything no matter the evidence etc...and that gave much of the west the doubt(not real doubt) and wiggle room it needed to do not much at all.

The point is, the current solidarity combines with popularism and would make the EU and US more likely to come down hard on China than they would previously- thanks to the model of Ukraine.
